Our sheep operation is geared toward the commercial sheep producer. We run Polypay ewes and breed to purebred Polypay rams registered with the NSIP (National Sheep Improvement Program). Although we do retain some replacement ewe lambs for ourselves, we also sell breeding stock privately. We have an accelerated lambing flock, with lambing starting the 10th of January going through March, May and June, and then again around the 1st of September for our fall lambing group. We work hard to adapt to the ever changing, consumer-driven industry, which isn't always the easiest thing to do. Each year we look forward to not only the successes but also the challenges that we face, and hope to get that much better every day.
2020 has been a very exciting time for our sheep operation. In July, we started construction on our new confinement building. It is fully insulated, tunnel-ventilated, measures 68x240, and will serve as our new lambing facility. Within it, we will have a working facility, lambing pens, grouping pens for families, ewes, or feeder lambs, an office, a pitted bottle lamb area, and a load out chute. This type of facility has been a dream of ours since the very beginning, and we are very happy with how it is coming along. (Pictures to come as it is completed)
A group of 400 ewe lambs will also be arriving out of western Colorado in late September. These ewe lambs are from the same flock we purchased from in 2018, so we are very excited to add more of these productive ewes to our flock.
We have sold more than 350 of our twin/triplet born ewe lambs as replacement stock to other producers this year and will be anxious to hear how they perform for everyone. We take so much pride in producing quality breeding stock and enjoy watching them perform for others as well!
